Luke 1:35
"The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you."
Week 4: Love
When we think of "Preparation" for Christmas, we usually think of logistics: buying gifts, planning meals, and hanging lights.
But for Mary, preparation looked like an interruption.
The Angel Gabriel didn't just bring a message; he brought a reality that would shatter her life as she knew it. The scripture says the power of the Most High would "overshadow" her.
This is the same language used in Exodus for the Cloud of Glory filling the Tabernacle.
Love is not just a gentle affection; it is a powerful, overshadowing presence. God loved the world so much that He didn't send a letter; He sent Himself. He asked a teenager to become the new Holy of Holies—to house the very presence of God.
This moment was terrifying before it was joyful. But Mary’s response changes history. She doesn't ask for a map. She simply offers the most powerful prayer a human can pray:
"I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled." (Luke 1:38)
We prepare for Advent not by doing more, but by surrendering more.
What is your "Yes"?
Is God asking you to surrender something this season? Share this reflection as a declaration of your own "Yes."
